Notes: Cold IPA, using style guidelines for American IPA. Color will be lighter than AmIPA SRM, per guidelines.
Partial boil method. Mash with 5.2 gal, lose 0.75 gal to grain absorption, so 4.45 gal preboil volume. After 0.6 gal boil-off, Ending kettle volume is 3.85 gallons, but have 0.6 gal dead space, so 3.25 into fermentor. Chill partially, and then add 2.0 gal chilled RO water to get to fermentation temp, and volume of 5.25 gal... lose about 0.25 gal to trub, so 5.0 gal into keg.
Ferment at 61 for 2-3 days, then dry hop for 1-2 days, then remove and raise temp to 68 for a D-rest and to get to terminal gravity. |

Pre boil gravity 1.050
collected 11.5 gallons pre boil wort. collected 9.5 gallons total wort into fermentor. Had a major issue with stuck sparge. The false bottom came loose and would not allow me to run the beer clear, kept pulling grains and mash with it. eventually collected beer into a 5 gallon bucket then dumped into keg. lots of pre boil/hot side aeration, not sure if this will affect the beer. Wort was extra cloudy. chiled beer with new chiller down to 72 degrees and pitched a starter of WLP001 |
