A fresh tropical hit from this Black IPA, with undertones of roasted coffee. A well balanced, drinkable yet complex beer. Be careful to select the right coffee for this brew. For a fresh but fruity coffee hit, try to find lightly roasted Arabica beans.

| Notes: Late Addition sugar (Dextrose or Belgian Candy Sugar if you can get it) is added at the10 minutes to go mark. Stirred in very well to avoid it sticking to the kettle. Better still dissolve the sugar in some of the wort before adding to the kettle. |

Notes: Heated water to 80oC before adding the grains. This brought the temp down to 67oC. Steeped for 1h.
While waiting I boiled 6lt of water which I then used for sparging (3lt) and bottled the rest to cool down in the fridge.
Added 1.5lt pale LME. Boiled for 30min.
Added hops at 80oC for 20min.
Post-boil wort was ~12lt (from 14.5lt). Added 7lt of cold water and then yeast at 22oC.
Will dry-hop on day 3 (50%) and day 6 (50%). |
