Notes: Trim & discard bark from ginger root, chop into small pieces, pressure cook in a couple cups water for 2 minutes, and slow cook on low for a couple hours. Strain & pitch the extract into primary fermentor when cool and add cooled wort.
It's VERY gingery! If you want it more subtle, you could easily back off on the ginger. |

Notes: Add approx 4.5 gallons of water to kettle and begin to heat (boil volumes should be 0.5 gallon short of target to account for volume of oat milk to be added). Add bag with carapils until water temp hits 160 degrees F then add Carmel / Crystal 120L for 20 mins. Squeeze bag and continue to heat until boiling. Once boiling, add malt extract. When dissolved add first hop addition and start boil timer. At flame out, add oat milk from fridge to bring temp down to 170. Start hopstand for 15 min then cool with chiller. |

Notes: This recipe does not have any standard fermentables, i.e. just the apple juice, so the equivalent weight and PPG for the juice can be worked out by taking the actual OG of the juice and then using the following formulas.
Since SG refers to the density of a liquid, with respect to water, you can convert volume to lbs and sg to ppg with the following two formulas.
Weight = 8.34\* V \* SG, where V is the volume in gallons, and SG is the gravity reading.
e.g. 44 lbs = 8.34 \* 5 \* 1.055.
Similarly, the PPG conversion is.
PPG = (SG - 1)\*1000 * V / weight
e.g. 6.251 = (1.055 - 1)\* 1000 * 5 / 44 |
