Mash grains at 160 F for 60 minutes.
Add 4 lbs Pale Malt LME to boiling water. Return to boil and add bittering hops (Jarrylo). Boil for 25 minutes.
Add wort from grains, add 4 lbs Pale Malt LME, return to boil. Boil 20 minutes. Add aroma hops (Azacca) and irish moss. Boil for 15 minutes. Remove from heat and cool. Total boil time 60 minutes.
Sg = 1065 on 2/20/16
Rg = 1012 on 3/6/16
Fg = 1010 on 4/10/16
Bottled with 3.5 oz priming sugar

Notes: This is an homage to Mac's Brown Ale within McAnally's Pub found in the work of fiction known as The Dresden Files. It's supposed to be a full-bodied, and slightly nutty Old World Brown Ale. My brewhouse efficiency is only about 60%, and I nailed this gravity reading dead-on. If you get greater efficiency, feel free to cut some of the DME as needed.

Notes: Beer pours hazy and brown with a nitro-like head. Very thick and creamy mouthfeel. Aroma is strong with the citra taking center stage and the hop aroma is almost transformed into sweet candy like notes. Taste is a bit on the sweet side likely due to some unfermented oat sugars but blends into the overall flavors well.
The malts leave a few things to be desired in terms of color and slight excessive sweetness, but the hops and hop schedule is highly recommended |
