| Notes: So much flavour, not bone dry but enough body to support the hops. It's got that lovely 'strawberry cream' flavour and aroma that I seem to get when using large amounts of cascade and centennial. Bottle conditioned with half a teaspoon of table sugar in each bottle o the carbonation is just right, not too much. Definitely strong enough at 7.8%. If my liver would allow it then I'd happily drink a couple of these every night! |

Notes: 5L (60 minute) Steeping @ 66c - 68c
500g Crystal Light
500g Crystal Medium
250g Red X
50 (100?) Roasted Barley
Rinsed with approx 2.0L of Hot (kettle boiled and cooled for 20 mins) water
Then Added 33L of water to boil kettle (approx 40L total but may have lost some during steeping) so could be 39L
Boiled for 60m
Single HOP addition 100g of East Kent Goldings 60mins
Just for My record:
Immersion Coil chilled to 25C - Wouldn't go any lower due to 35C day outside.
So waiting and pitched yeast a few hours later .
Wort split into TWO fermentors approx 17L in one and 16L in another
Wort 1 - Into Fridge Fermentor with Theromstat Control 19C
Wort 2 - Cellar Pitched at approx 23 in cellar
* Very hot on Day 2 and some sings of activity but moved fermentor to bedoroom as at 27c it wasn't active in cellar.
added cold wet towel as well.
Please note:
1. The 'L' Values are estimates for all Joe White products as these are listed by the company as a range.
2. The PPG for Joe White products are estimated. I used data from a table if similar products.
3. The Breiss CBW values are also estimated using others.
I could not set the correct county value to Czech either |

Notes: Update 8/28/2019. Note. Purpose of this beer is to brew an at least "pretty good" NEIPA with the lowest budget possible. Approx $11.5 for malt, negligible for sugar, about $14 for 10oz hops, reused free yeast. Total $25. Abv 7.4. That is cheap, considering. Hope it will taste good too.
=============
Update 8/26/19 :
Brewed this the other night. Used whole hops (got some on sale) Also I accidentally used Centennial in the 5 minute addition.
====================================
Update 8/15/2019:
redoing this one with cascade, and a lot less of it. i think i can make a decently hazy hoppy fragrant neipa using the cheapest hops and not even a ton of them....
Update 7/22/2019 :
I'm changing the yeast attenuation on this because I just measured the FG as being pretty much 1.002. Need to re-evaluate procedures. Possibly overpitching yeast (NO) or mashing too long / not mashing out properly, plus should start adding some crystal malt in there. On the other hand, if so desired - the beer is probably closer to 9% so it would be nice to hit the correct abv but the beer is good, thin bodied, but not as dry as i would expect given what i just found out. perhaps for dipa and tripa this is fine. for my stouts though not so much.
Update 6/10/19 :
rebrewing the "I got nothing" grain yeast and all, this time using one pound of columbus hops for the brew. will do 4 oz regular dry hop and put the other 4oz suspended in the keg.
=====================
Update 5/16/19
I accidentally added the wheat to another beer. Thewheat planned for this didnt make it in. Boosting up the corn sugar to 1lb to make up some abv.
update 2/12/19:
changing this for sort of a west coast double ipa spin off. the first beer was pretty good, good hop flavor and bitterness, good everyday beer. this one would be more of a west coast style hop bomb. also going for clear beer (both in appearance and body) this time so axed the oats and london yeast in leui of corn sugar and american ale yeast (may use american ale ii since i have some). will need to cold crash properly as well. also thinking of a different spin off of this in NEIPA style, should be elsewhere in the archives....
===========================================
kinda made up on brew night.
C5 hop is a combo of cascade centennial citra columbus and chinook. i had more on hand of cascade and centennial so i did 1.2 centennial and 1.3 cascade , 1oz everything else for a total of 6 oz used. calculated the weighted average of the AA, hopefully that checks out.
using reused london ale yeast from a previous batch amber lamps. the yeast was never taken out of the fermentor. (taking half of the yeast to use on a barleywine im also brewing tonight) |
