Notes: Hop Stand for 20 minutes after Boil before placing in Ice Bath.
Made a 1.25 Liter Starter at 1.035OG with 4.4oz of Extra Light DME at 11pm on 6-18-16.
Heated 8qts Strike Water to 178 degrees and tempered Mash Tun for 15 minutes and temp dropped to 167. At Dough-In the temp dropped to 153 degrees and then I started Timer at 75 minutes.
**Preboil Gravity 1.049 at 4 gallons. Post Boil Gravity is 1.060 and I accidentally did a 4 hour Hopstand due to falling asleep.** |

Notes: Hoping for a simple, yet tasty session type porter.
Figuring the wheat will add to the body.
Since the wheat extract is actually 60% wheat malt, this means this recipe is very close to 50% wheat malt and 50% pale malt.
This is my first time using the Midnight Wheat so I'm using it as my lead dark grain to see how I like it.
Made this on 2/18/16. Was about 10% short on the wheat extract so I made it up with light LME.

Notes: Lost some efficiency, but the good old 1056 chomped it down to 1.009 , so swings and roundabouts. Nice finish, decent hop character, but could use some more on aroma addition, or dry hopping.
Note on yeast: pitched about 150ml of yeast cake slurry from previous batch. Fermented out in four days. 6 more days at 18C, then cold crashed for 5 days at 2C |
