Brewtoad doesn't account for ibu in whirlpool. The calculated ibu for this recipe are 48.7. 26.9 ibu are from the Galena in the first wort, 17.9 ibu from the Comet in the whirlpool, and 3.9 ibu from the Azaca.
From Jeremy Shaw regarding his dry hopping on this beer "In the keg for 3-4 dsys at room temp. Then the keg goes in the fridge. I found that at serving temp i have never got any grassiness dryhopping an IPA. Noble hops are a different story."

Notes: Two stages of hopstand/whirlpool - first at flameout for some bitterness/isomerization (half an hour), followed by a lower temp (85C) hopstand for an additional half hour (this is in the sub-isomerization range), and is attempting to strike a balance between more rapid extraction of hop oils and the volatilization rate.
Mash done in 18L of water (strike temp 74C to hit 67C mash temp), BIAB, with 14L of sparge water (single sparge).
Hops will be bagged to try to keep some hops out of fermenter. |
