Water Volume: 5 gallons for ~1.5lb/qt ratio.
Prior to heating HLT, check pH of tap water + add Salts/LA to achieve Goal water.

SPARGE
Heat 7gal of Water to 174F. Add to Sparge Vessel.

Attempt to Sparge over ~24 minutes (~1gal/3min), collect 8 gal into boil kettle.

Check Pre-Boil Gravity (goal: 1.044) + pH

Allow Ranco/Chest Freezer to adjust wort temperature to goal starting temp (cool to 68F).

Notes: To brew the Rogue Chocolate Stout clone homebrew recipe, mash at 150°F (65°C) for 60 minutes. Sparge at 175°F (79°C) to collect 6.5 gallons (24.6 L) of pre-boiled wort. Boil for 90 minutes. Cool to 60°F (16°C) and pitch yeast.
Ferment at 60°F (16°C) for one week. Siphon into secondary at 50-55°F (10-13°C) onto chocolate extract and hold until fermentation is complete, then package and condition. |
