This reduces the “harshness” of the coffee, giving it a smoother flavor in the beer. To cold steep the coffee, coarsely grind or crush it and add to 2 cups of water in a mason jar or, ideally, a French press. Leave in the refrigerator for 12 to 24 hours, then strain out the coffee grounds and add the coffee liquid to the keg or bottling bucket. This should create a delicious beer treat worthy of being a breakfast beer! Because of the cocoa, there may be more sedimentation that with aver-age beers, so you may adjust volumes to account for this. We also highly rec-ommend a secondary for this beer.

I didn't fill the kettle all the way, output was about 4 gal. - I used one pack of yeast and pitched it too warm, but it fermented fine. I wanted a yeast that had a higher fermentation temp but WLP001 is the best I could get at the home brew mart. - FG 1015 - I have a tub o'water that I put ice bottles in to try to keep the temp in the range for the yeast. I have one of those thermo stickers on my fermenter to track it. I had the AC going to help moderate the temp. - I keep a towel around the fermenter to keep light out. First Place at Jerktoberfest 2018 Comments from judges/fellow-brewers: Nice clarity and goes down well. Excellent display of the hop here. Well-balanced and pleasant! I like this And comments from the color commentators: Pants are over-rated! My pants dropped the instant this beer hit my lips. Always a fan of Sans Pants. My pants couldn't come off fast enough for this beaut! Where can I buy it. Yes! Yes! Yes! Personal Comments: My first experiment with a single hopped beer. Came out clean and clear, medium to light body, well balanced despite being really high IBU. More aroma would have been great. Should have given more time to carbonate before event. Was not as well-balanced leading up to the event, but mellowed a little just in time. It's a good thing this crowd generally likes high ABV, moderate to high IBU beers.
