BEST Red X malt is specially created for brewing red-tinted beers. You can use BEST Red X for up to 100% of your grain bill – no other malt is required. Offering exceptional reliability and optimal processability, BEST Red X can be employed to brew consistently fiery beers with intense reddish hues. Its full-bodied flavor and attractive, unique color coupled with easy handling in the brewery, make BEST Red X the best choice for creating a broad range of new beers, such as red-tinted wheat beers.
As with all BEST malts, BEST Red X is produced using a special malting procedure exclusively from two-rowed summer brewing barley from recognized and thoroughly tested barley varieties.
Use: Basemalt for all red beers.
Perfectly suited for amber beer, wheat beer, altbier, ale, dark beer as well as for other beers.

Olyan lett, amulyennek vártam, OG 14,5, jó az illata :)
Nagyon alacsony FG, kicsit alkoholos vizes először, de később javul.
Egy kis testet és több komlót elbírna még, de haladunk. |

Notes: Water treated with brewing salts to: Ca=50, Mg=10, Na=16, Cl=71, S04=69
(Keeping the Cl:S04 ratio even for a balance between malt and bitterness, hitting the minimums on Ca and Mg).
For complete details on how to adjust your water, refer to our step by step Water Adjustments guide.
1.5 qt/lb mash thickness. Single infusion mash at 152F for 90 mins. Mashout to 168F.
60-90 min fly sparge with ~6 pH water. Collect 13.9 gallons in boil kettle.
Boil for 60 minutes. Lid on at flameout, start chilling immediately.
Cool wort to 66F and aerate well. Ferment at 66-68F until complete.
Rack to brite tank (secondary), crash chill to near freezing (if possible), add 1 tsp of unflavoured gelatin dissolved in a cup of hot distilled water per 5 gallons of beer, and let clear for 2-3 days |

Notes: At end of primary, meh. I'm getting some oxidation flavors, its certainly all of the 50 IBUs the model predicted. Not too bad beer. I think this is definitely one I need to move into a secondary and leave the trubb and spent hops. Alcohol based on FG of 1.011 is just over 5 on 8 days of fermentation. So again a starter and OYL did a good job on fermentation as FG is lower than model predicted.
Moving to a secondary did the trick. Flavor is a hoppy biscuit with nice bitterness lingering to pinch out the strong malt on the finish. I'm starting to like it. I got the carbonation set right and really starting to enjoy this one. |
