Notes: Start by getting yeast starter ready
1.25qts/lb = 13lbs of grain @ 1.25 qts/lb = 4.06 Gal water
Strike temp at 105F to achieve 98F Mash in
Mash in to achieve 98F
Pull first decoction after 40 minutes. This will give the mash tun a total of 1 hour minutes to steep at 98F (thick oatmeal on the 1/3 decoction)
- Bring to a boil for 10 minutes
- Add back to mash
Aim to raise temp to 128F. Rest for 30 minutes
Pull second decoction (1/3 to 1/2 of mash thick oatmeal)
- Bring to a boil for 15 minutes
- Add back to mash
Aim to raise temp to 148F. Rest for 40 minutes
Pull third/final decoction (1/3 of mash thick oatmeal)
- Bring to a boil for 10 minutes
- Add back to mash
Aim to raise temp to 168F. Rest for 1 hour.
Vorlauf the initial runnings until they clear of cloudiness a bit.
Sparge to 6.5 Gallons
Boil for 1 hr with Hops for the full hour.
Cold crash with immersion chiller to 60-70F
Rack to carboy
