Notes: Mash water is ~3.5 gallons
Heat mash water to 148F and steep grains, keeping mash temp hovering between 146 and 149F.
Mash with lid on for 50-60 min.
Drain at the end of mash, lauter.
Sparge with 170-175F water, let sit for 15 min.
Drain and dispense grains, add all liquid back into kettle, add enough liquid to make 5.5 gallons, boil.
When boiling, add bittering hops. These will boil for 60 minutes total.
After bittering hops have been in for 30 min, add other flavoring hops.
With 10 min remaining in boil add in whirlfloc tablet.
When all complete, pitch yeast and ferment for 7-10 days.
Cold crash improves clarity for this style |
