Beer Batch Statistics Calculators
Brewing is as much a science as it is an art. There are several calculators on this site to aid in your brewing. These calculators work well with our brew day sheets. The Complete Recipe Builder ties it all together.
New – Complete Recipe Builder:
- We invite you to try the Brewer’s Friend Recipe Builder an online home brew recipe builder which includes the following features:
- Supports All Grain, Extract, Partial Mash, BIAB.
- Ability to save recipes to your account.
- Ability to print recipes.
- Multiple ABV, IBU, and SRM equations supported.
- US and Metric Units
- World Timezone Support
- Ability to scale recipes by efficiency and batch size.
- Ability to share recipes.
All Grain Brewers:
- Mash Calculator – For infusion mashing, use this calculator to find out your strike water temperature and volume. If you are performing additional rests you can plan them out in advance.
- All Grain OG/FG – If you are an all grain brewer and want to know your expected original gravity (OG), expected final gravity (FG), and expected alcohol by volume (ABV), you can plug in the numbers and get instant results. This calculator is specifically designed to work with our all grain brew day sheet.
- IBU Calculator – Bitterness – IBU = international bittering units – This calculator tells you how many IBUs your batch has, given hops additions and wort gravity.
- SRM Calculator – Color – SRM = Standard Reference Measure – Tells how light or dark your home brew will be based on the amount and types of ingredients. Uses Morey’s Formula.
- Water Chemistry Calculator – Water chemistry calculator for beer brewers targeting certain mineral levels. Converts salt additions to teaspoons. Calculates balance of flavor ions and checks for harmful levels.
- Brewhouse Efficiency – Reports beer mash extraction efficiency in percentage terms and points per pound per gallon (ppg). Useful for all grain beer brewers to calculate their actual efficiency at extracting sugars from the grain during the mash.
- Quick Infusion Calculator – Finds the amount of boiling water needed to reach a new rest temperature in your mash tun. For use in the middle of mashing.
Extract Brewers:
- Extract OG/FG – If you are an extract brewer and want to know your expected original gravity (OG), expected final gravity (FG), and expected alcohol by volume (ABV), you can plug in the numbers and get instant results. This calculator is specifically designed to work with our extract brew day sheet.
- IBU Calculator – Bitterness – IBU = international bittering units – This calculator tells you how many IBUs your batch has, given hops additions and wort gravity. IBU’s are a way of measuring bitterness and allow comparisons between two batches. IBUs also help to classify beers into different styles based on bitterness. For example, a blond ale should have between 15-30 IBUs, while an IPA should have 40-60 IBUs. You would not want to enter your beer into a blond ale category if it had 50 IBU’s because then it just wouldn’t be a true blond ale (according to whatever guideline the competition follows).
- SRM Calculator – Color – SRM = Standard Reference Measure – Tells how light or dark your home brew will be based on the amount and types of ingredients. Uses Morey’s Formula.
General Calculators:
- ABV – Alcohol By Volume – If you took an original gravity reading (or had estimated OG), and also took a final gravity (FG) reading prior to adding priming sugar bottling you can find out your batch’s alcohol by volume ABV.
- Hydrometer Temperature – Hydrometers are calibrated to 15 °C, 59 °F. This calculator will tell you the actual specific gravity no matter what temperature the sample is at.
- Bottling Calculator – Ever wonder if you have enough bottles to hold your 5 gallon batch? Ever wondered if you have 4 22oz, and 6 half liter bottles, how many 12oz bottles do you need to cover the rest of the batch? This calculator does the math for you.
Wine Calculators:
- Wine Making Calculators – Wine making calculators, not directly related to brew beer. However there is some overlap between beer brewing and wine making. These calculators are useful in making grape wines as well as meads and fruit wines.
