I'm a huge fan of Lagunitas Born Yesterday and this was my attempt to clone it. Came out nice but I still hope to tweak this correctly and get much closer to the real deal.If you've never had it before, it comes out in October - on tap it's incredible and at $11 a six pack I think it's one of the best beers for the money.
I designed the grain bill, mash, ferm and hops schedule based on notes from Jamil Zainasheff "Can you Brew it" podcast interview with Lagunitas head brewer Jeremy Marshall where they went through the details of Lagunitas IPA. http://www.thebrewingnetwork.com/post1593/
However, for the APA, I combined those ideas with several winning Pale Ale recipes found on the net, along with the hops varieties that were revealed in a promo video from Lagunitas about the making of Born Yesterday (Simcoe, Mosaic, Amarillo, Citra, Equinox)
Things I plan to change nest brew - I'll probably mash a little bit higher and lower the target boil volume a bit to hopefully add more depth to the malt character and help balance the hops. It's also heavy handed on the gypsum - might back that off a bit.
