Finger lime IPA, based on a Session IPA (4.6%) but upped ABV to around 5%
Substitutes;
- Gladfield Light Crystal for Caramalt
- Didn't get Mand. Bav. hops, Magnum was sent instead.
5/6/19 - SG: 1013, dry hopped.
9/6/19 - Added 120g of frozen/thawed finger lime pearls, looks very juicy and cloudy, SG: 1013.
12/6/19 - Cold crashed.
16/6/19 - Kegged, added 120g of frozen/thawed finger lime pearls. Tasting slightly of lime and very clean.
17/6/19 - Force carbed at 30psi for 2min 45 sec, pretty full keg with limited head space.
2/6/19 - Tastes of bitter lime, especially on the back, not too strong but next time I'll use more in season finger limes for a sweeter finish. This is quite well received and should do again.

Notes: Resulting beer was amazing. Steep for 30 mins before chilling. Aroma faded significantly after 3 weeks. Would dry hop with 6g per litre in the future.
Recipe ripped from a Kernel youtube video from years ago. Clone beer was almost identical to real mccoy.

Notes: Last time I had a quart of slurry which topped it off to about 5.75 gal. Might want to sparge an extra quart (e.g. 27 vs 26). Maybe adjust the hops too. Noble Hops. Might remove the caramunich (i reduced it to .25lb), maybe add caravienna? Might not be to style but my others had caramunich... Maybe use fuggles vs another one. |

Notes: ferment for 7 to 10 days, cool condition for 3 to 4, make sure yeast has fallen to bottom before kegging
on this last batch I was out of San Diego and used Nottingham yeast, just a note alcohol went up and hope flavor went down, saving this yeast, goes strait to your head
notes on the batch: fermented for 7 days, pulled it into kegs for 7 more at 40 degrees, then pulled off with the auto-siphon into another keg then carbed at 20 for 2 days, not the hop burst of flavor I was hoping for but nice slight bitterness with lots of spunk |

Notes: After 4 weeks in the bottle, this tasted absolutely horrid, as if you took a sip from a 12 AA Sorachi tea. I was really worried because it had such a high %. 2 weeks later, the Ace blended nicely into the background of sweet wheat. Strangest beer I have ever made. Very refreshing twist in the anti-Reinheitsgebot.
Recorded OG was 1.050 @ 72F, FG 1.012. Ferm temp avg 68 |
