Kind of an experimental beer, never brewed a beer utilizing Saaz like this. We have a ton of Saaz Zuper just sitting in a bag, some spare 2 row/maris/wheat/cryst 60 so we decided to try it. Going to do a direct pitch of US-05 from another beer that has just hit FG, pre-dry hop.
We use RO water. The mineral additions are targeting somewhat of a West Coast IPA profile.

This beer was brewed on our 1 BBL pilot unit at New Magnolia Brewing in Houston, TX. As mentioned in the notes, kind of an experimental beer with ingredients we had in the cupboard. The color landed where I expected it to with decent head retention. Herbal, spice, earthy flavors on the palate...so pretty much Saaz but not overly aggressive. Herbal notes on the nose. Bitterness is present but moderate. A nice touch of malt backbone which I would attribute to the crystal and Maris Otter. Soft-ish mouthfeel. Overall a very pleasant beer to drink especially if you are a Saaz fan. After drinking it, I would not call it an IPA but a pale ale as the hop profile turned out a bit more muted than I expected. I rate it a 4.
