Notes

Based on Scott Russell's clone recipe of "Haystack Black Ale" (Portland Brewing Co, Portland, OR) in his book "North American Clone Brews" [Page 104] this recipe is only slightly modified.

Changes:

  • Substituted Briess Midnight Wheat for recipe's "black malt"
  • Added more pale malt than recipe and changed values of specialty malts to meet category.
  • Kept same hops but adjusted amounts to get final brew closer to chosen categories.
