This beer was brewed at New Magnolia Brewing in Houston, TX on our 1 BBL pilot unit. As with a lot of our pilot beers, we check our inventory of hops and grains and see if we can pull something together. This beer did not turn out to taste like a porter IMO. I used too much dark malts and it came out with a ton of roasty, coffee like flavors that I think are too much for a porter. But the beer was not bad per se, as it really came out as a stout. I think I should have dialed back the dark malts a bit and increased the crystal. Maybe drop the black prinz altogether. We put this on our beer on our beer engine and also nitro. Both methods really helped soften the roastiness and gave it a more creamy characteristic and mouth feel. I think that really saved the beer. When I had a sensory panel, we all agreed it was "tap wall-able", i.e we felt we could serve it to customers. Customer feedback has been positive. I give it a 3.5.
