Notes: My first recipe, a smashable light-coloured ale, with a twist of lime. Inspired by Miller Chill, and trying to make a lager-like drink for any beer drinker, but without the constraints of needing to lager or have it commercial brewery level clear, and with a temperature-friendly yeast.
This was my first time doing a hopstand. So while I put in the hops at 5 minutes, I kept the hop spider in while chilling down to 77C (which took 10 minutes from flameout). I turned the immersion chiller off to perform a hop stand between 71-77C, although it only went for 3-4 minutes with the Brewzilla recirculation arm pumping. Then I removed the hop spider when it reached 71C and continued to cool the wort as normal. From initial taste at gravity testing stage, this is an effective way of imparting flavour and aroma. |
