Want to brew an oyster stout

Anyone brewed one? I've only found a few recipes... I think AHA published two in an article from 2014. Found one in a book called "The Secrets of Master Brewers" but it's mostly a hey look at this kooky part of Irish beer history! Not an actual helpful recipe. I'd like to start with a dry...

    What's your favorite extract recipe?

Hello all! Once I'm set up in my new place in a few weeks I'll want to get cracking at some homebrew again :) but I'm going to do extract brewing for a while (probably 2.5 gallon batches). What's your favorite extract recipe? I tend to prefer IPAs/pales and had great luck with a Sierra...

    Recipe suggestions from Ingredients Calculator?

Newbie here, so please excuse me if this has been asked before. Anyone know if there's an online reverse calculator that suggests beer recipes based on what ingredients (hops/malts/etc.) you have? Something like cocktailbuilder.com (that also lists more options if you were to buy one or two...

OG Way lower than expected - how?

Recently drafted a "Hazy DIPA" recipe in the recipe builder, with the following Fermentables: Method: Extract, full-volume for boil 60 minutes. Started with a volume around 8 gal., finished with probably 5.7 gal. 1LB Flaked Oats(pre-gelatinized, steeped 30) 1LB Flaked Wheat(pre-gelatinized...

    First brown ale

My dad might be coming to town on business next month, and I would love to brew him a brown ale. He really likes the Lost Coast Downtown Brown. I wanted a simple brown ale; no more than 4 types of grains and only a few hop additions. I have voss kveik as the yeast because I don't have a way...

    Simcoe single hop IPA

Hello! I will be brewing a Simcoe single hop IPA, and would love some feedback. The ingredients came in a kit, so I can't change any of the grain bill (precrushed and all mixed in one bag). But! I can mess around with the boil additions, which is what I've tried to do. I've only brewed a...

    Is this a Blonde?

I bought an all grain kit for gruit, but then changed my mind about wanting to try brewing that style. Instead I took the Pilsner malt and White wheat from the recipe, added some Maris Otter and Crystal 60 for flavor and mash pH, and added the hopping schedule from Biermuncher's centennial...

    German Pils recipe feedback

I am a newbie to Brewer's Friend recipe builder. I am also a newbie to brewing German Pils. I am seeking feedback on a German Pils recipe I constructed today. I especially am concerned about the hops, in particular IBU's. I don't want to say that I don't trust this tool, but more so do not...

    Critique this Recipe...

So.. my last batch did not go as planned and I ended up having to dump the batch due to bottle bombs. I just received some Azacca hops from Yakima Valley's Black Friday deal. I have never used these hops and was going to do a modified SMaSH :) Please let me know if you would do anything...

    Recipe Not Saving

I've been working on a recipe all evening and every time I make changes and save, it confirm the action but doesn't actually take hold. Upon reloading the recipe, all of my changes are gone. Even if I change the name, it may seem to work for a little while, but inevitably will revert back...

Does the recipe editor adjust the water chemistry based on the grain bill?

I put in my water in the water calculator and then played with the salt additions to get to my targets. I then began my recipe and linked to the water I had created. In the recipe tool, water chemistry section, there is a line "overall water report" and I had blown way past all my targets...

    Hop Sort

Has anybody got a problem with the hop sort button? Basically, instead of sorting the hops into a logical order, on each click, it gradually deletes chosen additions, but not all. Very strange? Fix available? Tried reloading etc, but it's still the same.

    Scaling a recipe

Total noob here :) Just fermenting my first batch now, and I’d like to start another, but the more I learn, the more questions I have ;). I have a standard brew kit, designed for the ol 5 gallon batch, but what if I wanted to make a smaller batch? Do beer recipes scale perfectly? If I wanted...

Sierra Nevada - Butte County Proud IPA

Sierra Nevada has worked up a new IPA in support of the folks devastated by the Camp Fire in California. They are actively encouraging other breweries (and brewers) to make batches and are attempting to get ingredient donations to cover the costs. I think this is great what SN is doing here --...
