Notes

Roast barley added for the last 7 minutes of the mash only.

Final review: Attractive dark copper (brown) colour. 5% ABV but doesn't taste like it. Lacking in body but still very enjoyable. No perceptible bitterness. Lacking any of the wheat character that the most popular brand has... no surprise since there's no wheat in the recipe. The yeast performed exceptionally well and gave pleasant esters (but none of that rancid banana character that I despise!). The yeast settled out completely leaving a crystal clear beer that did not require gelatin clearing. Carbonated with "Hefefürze" by adding 50g dextrose to the pressurised fermenter after racking the beer.

To my English tastes, this was very much like a "Midlands Mild Ale".

I would make it again but would add some wheat to boost the body and make it more "true to style" (German). This beer didn't last even two weeks on tap at "German Georg's" house so it can't have been too bad.
