Fucked the mash up royally. Lucky for Hoppy, things didn't turn out too bad. Just alot of haze for a Lager, but the flavor profile is quite different than anything I've brewed. The malt body almost tasted coconutty, and the Sorachi hops gives a zingy citrusy, sprite like finish. Another week in the keg and she'll be lovely enough. Another redo on the docket. First time using rice, and Sorachi Ace. based on Clawhammer's recipe. For a fuck up batch, things could have gone way worse. This one will be drank. Ultimately, drinkable is the red line and if you don't cross it, you're all good.

Don't know if it's cuz I boiled the shit out of the mash for the last 10 mins, or if it's cuz the recipe is heavy on rice flake, but I could have made something clear and crisp, opposed to hazy and nutty. It might even be worth your time to do cooked rice, and maybe dial the quantity back 25%...Maybe like 6 lbs pilsner, 3 lbs rice...Very unique flavored beer in any case. I think I could crisp it up some, but there's a good start on my first lager anyway. Keg prolly won't last 2 long...

Would have also vorlauf'd the shyte outta this one had I not gone tits out kettle's blazin'... surprised I can even drink this whoore, never mind find it tasty...

Nailed batch 2. Crystal clear, Crisp, although finished above target. Used minute rice in this mash. just ran it through the mill with the malt. Kept temps consistent, vorlauf'd like a mofo to clean it up. Ferm was fast, but let it mellow near freezing for the last 3 weeks. couldn't wait any longer. seems ready to go anyway and further conditioning would probably be pointless anyway. Sorachi ace zing comes through nicely on top of the rice. This one doesn't taste like coconut, although the hops hint slightly in that direction. Solid beer. Will do this lil' doggy in the summer if I can find a lagering fridge for the graj.
