Notes

I brewed two side-by-side. In one recipe I used Barke Pilsner and the other I used normal Pilsner. Other than that, both recipes and brew processes were identical. All malts were Weyermann.

I batch sparge and use a three vessel brewery. My last batch sparge is added about 15 minutes before flame-out which adds a subtle, grainy flavour to the finished beer - a sort of 'raw' malty overtone so often encountered in commercial German beers (lagers and ales). It is pleasant and if you watch your temperatures, timing and specific gravity of the final sparge, will not add astringency and huskiness to the beer. Make of this what you will, I have been doing this as standard practice for over two years with great success.
