Brewers Association jumped the gun and botched this one. In a couple of years is anyone going to be ordering an “American-style India Black Ale” in a bar? I’m not sure I could remember all that after a couple pints. Mark my words, black IPA will prevail.

I did read the last line that's why I posted the article so you know your not alone
you and the author prefer to drink BIPA I prefer to drink IBA if only based on the Acronym

To me IBA is India Brown Ale, like Dogfish Head's brew or Janet's Brown ale

it was a big debate online what ipa ment a while back, Indian "pale" ale, that said black is not pale but its all good, say what what ever acronym you want

The IPA we drink today is truly nothing like it's origins were, much like most popular styles, except the purer Belgian, English, German styles

Well there is a tale about the English shipping stronger beer to stay safe during the sea voyage
But it was probably due to the high cost of shipping
Ship it strong in fewer barrels then add more water on arrival
Now that said I'm sure some sailors acquired the taste for it

so Ive brewed 30 gallons of blond 20 gallons of pale ale an 10 of Oktoberfest this summer, what should I brew next, I have a stout for the fall but thinking red ale or amber bock. I think I'm in the mood for a good Red

Next up is oatmeal cookie stout , Marie ESB dry hopped with mosaic cryo, then probably dark funky saison or pecan dopplebock

That is the origin of the style, but they increased from like 3.5% to 4.5% and added more hops so the beer would keep longer. To my knowledge it was for their own consumption, not for trade.
