Given the dark grains used perhaps this version is more of a British Isles version of a Gruit. Regarding the picture uploaded, we released two beers at the same time. The Gruit is the one on the right.

We brewed this Gruit beer on our 1 BBL pilot unit at New Magnolia Brewery. I'd been wanting to brew a Gruit for some time. This recipe is a Frankenstein pulled together from our own ideas, poaching some components from others, and just giving some ingredients a go. I was very happy with what came out. There are like 7 layers of flavors that develop before, during and after swallowing. Def get some eucalyptus/mint, earthy flavors but I am not sure what exactly contributed to that flavor (mugwort/sweet gale/wormwood?). The licorice root and juniper berries are on the finish. Overall a very hard beer to describe, but overall, a very nice one. Glad we finally brewed one.
