I brewed today!

Note to self.. when you are putting things into the kettle that are not part of the mash bill but act as part of the gain bill, write it down along with your hop additions. I had an OH $HIT moment right after pitching my Albany Ale!

I brewed Sunfire's Golden Ale today. Everything went great except that I accidentally swapped the 0.25 oz addition of Citra at 10 minutes with the 1.5 oz addition of Citra at 5 minutes. I'm not worried, I've made worse mistakes.

Brewed an American Wheat Spelt this morning. Pilsner and Spelt malt. Hoping for a nice, summer type beer along the lines of an American Wheat. Should end up around 4-4.5%, low bitterness and some Nelson and Citra late for a little hoppy appeal. Pitched 1450 at 66F.

So maybe not a brew but beer related. I got one of morebeer’s flashbrewing pilsners kits. It’s 2 gallon and 30 ibu. I plugged it into the calculator and with 3 gallons it’s around 3.7 and 20 ibu. So basically a kit leichtbier . I used 34/70 instead of their flash yeast. Yeast is working after 4 hours.

Good luck. A friend and I tried their Irish Ale kit (5 gal) and it was a dumper. In all fairness, it could have been us. Maybe a real yeast will make a difference!

I've done a couple of the Flash Brew Irish Ale kits and thought they were good. Maybe a step down from what I make and two steps down from the Pros but, still good.

To be fair, we brewed a "normal" batch prior and were a bit tipsy at that point. Still sober enough to dump stuff into a carboy though, I my opinion!
