Craigerrr's Travels

Back at the cottage "self isolating", it is just so beautiful here. This isn't considered Notthern Ontario, more like the near north.

Heading to Awenda Provincial park, just under 3 hour drive, park is right on Georgian Bay. If you recall the trip to the cottage in Tobermory, this is about the same distance, but a little east of there.

Thanks Ben first trip of the season, gone for 9 nights, REALLY looking forward to this. We had 5 nights booked back in May, but the campgrounds were not open then. The park we are going to is actually opening tomorrow. We booked this in January, and have had our fingers crossed hoping that we can go.

Fresh o2 is a good thing! Just ask your yeasties:D Enjoy

Too much to get into right now, when we get to the Motel later today, I will share the insanity that drove us out of Awenda Provincial Park! If you care to in the meantime, google "gypsy moth caterpillar".

Awenda Provincial Park is entirely under a canopy of deciduous trees, the leaves of which are the delicacy of the Gypsy Moth Caterpillers. You are no doubt thinking "Craiger, suck it up buddy, it's the great outdoors, and a couple of caterpillars"... the entire forest is being consumed by these creatures. It's not just the caterpillars that are the problem, it is their feces falling constantly from the trees. It literally sounds like it is raining, all day,and all night. We packed up and got the EFF out of there today. They were crawling on everything, we couldn't even sit outside. Oh, and where a hat unless you want caterpillar feces in your hair. There is also a layer of pieces of leaves that fall to the ground, the little shit heads can't even be bothered to eat the whole leaf. Here are a few pictures, which don't do justice to how bad it was.

We arrived Friday around 10AM, set up camp, and thought that the caterpillars would be a bit of a nuisance, but then we realized that they just started crawling on everything. We ended up sitting inside the trailer all afternoon, and evening, and decided that there is no way we can do this fo one more day, nevermind 9 more days.
Here is a picture of their feces on our table cloth.

So, WTF are we going to do, go home? We found another campsite 3 hours north of there, but we can't get in there until Sunday. So we booked the night at a Super 8 motel part way between. We have had our showers to wash the caterpoop out of hair, and we are now just going to drink for a while:D.

Wow. They are definitely not practicing safe social distancing.

Don’t blame you one bit for skedaddling.
