Notes
Starter for 50 litre ale at 1.050 OG
Aiming for 1.040 SG starter
7l mash water, 1kg grain (pale ale)
45min mash at 64C, BIAB
Expect grain absorption around 1l
6l to boil, loss of around 1l
5l starter, pitch 2 x packs US-05 at 18degC
Using 10l plastic fermenter
Shaking for aeration, regular shaking through 24 hours.
Could use heat belt and STC 1000 for heat control but probably not necessary if kept in kitchen cupoard
Yeast calculator suggests this gives just enough cells for 48l at 1.050. Or use 6l at 1.046 gravity (use extra litre or 2 for sparge)
