I brewed today!

Last Friday I brewed a new beer.
I'm calling it "Cheers"
At the shop last Thursday we evaluated 5 commercial Holiday beers and broke them down by SRM,ABV,OG/FG, Aroma, Taste profile and overall perception. Then I put together a recipe based on what I liked.
It should be like a Christmas cookie.
1.075OG
1.018 FG
8% ABV
38 IBU
16 SRM
It should be malty with heavy caramel and raisiny notes, Honey like sweetness in the background and just enough spice to be noticed in the finish.
Should be ready by Thanksgiving
Cheers!
Brian

Got vacation days to burn before year end, so it was Brew Day Friday...
"Right in the Mouth!" .. Citra Hopped IPA.

Lumberjack Amber Lager (California Common) ... boy, have I missed this beer.
"Brew closet" is 56-58 degrees, so finally temp is low enough to make this.

I brewed 20 Gallons of German Pilsner on Saturday.
It was mainly the recipe from last months BYO except I had to make some hop adjustments.
I pre-boiled and decanted 1/2 my brewing water and used distilled for the other 1/2.
Should be great towards the end of January.

6 gallons of Classic American Pilsner yesterday, brewed as a test batch of Avangard Pilsner Malt. Split batch, half is getting Wyeast American Lager, half Wyeast Urquell.

I love the Avangard Malts!
I've been using them for about 6 months and have changed most of my recipes to include them.
Also, the yield is better.

I got 82% conversion from a 145/156/170 degree step mash regime in my 10-gal Igloo with the Avangard malt. The wort was gorgeous, tasted wonderful. I'm looking forward to the beer!

Ive herd its good, my LBS sells it for 25 bucks more per bag and has a big demand for it, next time I think Ill go for it

Ozark,
It shouldn't be any more expensive than 2 Row. I think ours is priced the same per pound.
Just saying,
Brian

Good for degreasing engines and killing brain cells.... I don't think even Stone has produced anything in that range (although I've read that the theoretical max for IBUs is about a hundred).

I agree, I can only think of one reason supply and demand

Busy Beer day today:

Polar Vortex (Porter) went to beer fridge.
Clandestine Solitude (Imperial Stout) got bottled.
Ryeteous (Rye Pale Ale) got racked and dry hopped... bottles next weekend
Beer:30 (Session IPA) got racked and dry hopped.... bottles next weekend

..... and ordered everything I need for my next two batches. The empty beer fridge will be full again very soon.

Most impressive.

Serious question - who will drink all that brew? I assume we are talking 5gal batches.

And how long do you expect it to last

I am always intrigued by those who brew regularly. Where does it all go???

Beautiful early spring day! Brewed a St Patty's Blarney hopefully in time for the 17th. Kicked it up a bit to add a little more buzz. Ordered grain and yeast for an Oktoberfest so it will lager all summer, along with yeast for hefe's. LHBS doesn't carry White Labs and want to stick with the 380 Have a great start on the upcoming spring and summer this year with a full kegerator and soon a full lager frig!

I drink a lot of beer.
But mostly pass out a lot of beer.
Have had instances of the beer fridge not being able to accept any more, at that point I just clear it out with mass distribution so I can start once again.
Have never really had anything long enough to find how long it lasts. Longest age on anything about 9 months and that was fine when the last one was consumed.
