After the mash was finished 1.5 L of unhopped wort was taken out of kettle and boiled seperately on a high heat for approx 30m stirring often to prevent burning. The resultant solution (250 ml) was a much darker shade of brown and had strong caramel and toffee flavours. This was then added back to the boil.
