Used 3.6 oz DME with 1.5L of water. Boiled down to about 1L. Began starter on stirplate at 0800. Wanted to start it yesterday. Oh well, 24 hours it’ll have then I’ll take it off the plate and let it settle for pitching. |

Mashed in at 154, temp was a tad low, so gave it some heat and made temp quickly.
Set a finer crush today. I think this is a better setting as my conversion was 95%, assuming my measurements were correct after dropping the refrac. Made 39 instead of 30 for pre-boil gravity. |

Post mash volume was at least a qt low. Added a qt of water before boil considering my gravity was high. Going to tweak my grain absorption number.

Trying keg fermentation for the first time. Filled my keg to about 4.5 gallons and gave it 10 drops of Fermcap. The remaining gallon or so went into my 1 gallon fermenter. Had to guess splitting the yeast starter into the two vessels.
Though the brew day was a disaster on many levels, the actual brewing elements went well. Beer looked and smelled amazing as usual. Looking forward to it! |

Forgot to check my volume, but I think it was just about right, maybe a qt high.
Can’t explain why my gravity didn’t change except for bad readings from the possibly busted refrac. |
