Television Series

I have been binge watching Star Trek TNG, didn't watch it regularly when it was on TV but its a nice to watch the series streaming at leisure vs 1 episode/week on live tv.
About 5 years ago I watched the original series, then TNG, I might be able to do that again, maybe this fall...

In the states, H&I has most of the Star Trek Series on 6 days a week. Old one at 8. THG at 9. DS9 at 10, well you get the picture.

Thanks for the tip. Turns out H&I is available over the air in Atlanta. Hadn’t known that.

We have it over the air here too, and I know Directv has it on their line-up.
I have been having a difficult time sleeping, so I like to have something on the TV to nod off to. Another over the air one is Grit that has all the old westerns. That work as does Amazon with the Classic Dr. Who shows. I like the Tom Baker Doctor.

I liked the Tom Baker Doctor as a kid but never watched the new stuff. I watch Star Trek via a Paramount + subscription on Amazon (the only way i can see it)

Goes Wrong Show is absurdly funny.

If you're into British comedy the "Goes Wrong Show" is pretty funny.
I'll have to look into this one. I love British comedies.

I also love Fawlty Towers. A local theatre company did a show of three episodes. The actors had similar looks to John Cleese, Prunella Scales, Connie Booth, and Andrew Sachs. The actor playing Basil had John Cleese's mannerisms down pat which made it almost like we were watching an episode live.

I've been watching this show called Hockey Night in Canada! It's wicked good if you like that sort of thing!

TNG was my intro to Trek. Will always have a special place in my heart but DS9 is my favorite of the 90s/2000s Trek. Have you watched Strange New Worlds yet? Quickly becoming my new favorite

I've been all-in on Star Trek since TOS and like @SabreSteve DS9 is my favorite series. Each series has it's strengths and weaknesses, I think DS9 just had stronger stories and better character development and arguably some of the best actors. Strange new worlds is very good as well; although I actually like the original chief engineer over the one now played by Carol Kane.

Not yet, i plan to watch DS9 and Voyager after TNG (I skipped the original series). I do have Enterprise , Discovery, Picard, and strange new worlds (in that order) planned after Voyager.

I too skipped TOS but I've seen all the movies, just couldn't get past all the 60's cheesiness. Love DS9. Voyager isn't my favorite but worth a watch. Enterprise is good and I wish it would have gotten more of a chance because it was just really starting to hit it's stride when it was cancelled. Discovery I made it through two and half seasons but I was worn out by the darker tone (which DS9 also had but balanced it out with lighter episodes). Picard was good even though they basically threw out seasons 1-2 for the TNG reunion in season 3. The other show is highly recommend is Lower Decks it's great because it just absolutely makes fun of everything in the Trek universe but in a reverential way (think Galaxy Quest). It's very reference heavy though so the more of the other stuff you watch first the funnier it is.

Now mind you that's literally several hundred episodes of television to watch all that so no pressure

That's why I stopped watching Discovery and one of the reasons why I really liked DS9.

C'mon, science fiction was expected to be corny back in those days...
That series was more of a social commentary hiding it as more futuristic. Kind of like Planet of the Apes which was also absolutely brilliant for the time. The funny thing is that none of us would probably know about it if it weren't for Lucille Ball.

Discovery got to the point where it was just all dark.
Meanwhile DS9:
Yeah we're in the middle of a long, bloody war with the Dominion but we're going to take some time out for a holosuite baseball game against the Vulcans.

Desilu Studios! I guess the story is too that when Roddenberry had his meeting there she was literally the only person in the room that believed in it.
The social commentary is something that has continued and is part of any good sci-fi. Which is why I think it's funny when people accuse Nu-Trek of being "woke". It's always been woke.

I should probably try TOS again but I had a hard time getting through the early episodes. Probably didn't help that when it was on Netflix it started with "The Cage" (the unaired pilot that eventually became the launching point for Strange New Worlds). That meant I had to watch two pilots back to back and pilots can be rough. Just started a Strange New Worlds rewatch ahead of season 3, maybe I'll go back and try again after that

I never figured out what "Woke" actually was LOL. The original definitely had some socialist concepts, but since we no longer abide by economic models piling debt upon debt ( and that is everybody, not just us), who knows if the man might actually be right or not someday. I still think Roger Waters will have it right in that we amuse ourselves to death:)
They did have the first interracial kiss on TV too.
