Just confirm for me that the only place where "excess pressure" can exit from that setup is the water drain hose, right?

I know it does not get pressurized, but all the other holes are plugged it seems.
What actually happens is that once steam starts to condense in the water spray a bit of a vacuum is created.
The water spray is roughly where I drew the blue lines below.
So, the opposite of pressure...

Mine’s very low tech, but works great. I put the chiller & the hop strainer in at the beginning of the boil, hook up the water and drain hoses, and set the timer for hop additions. When done, I turn on the water and sit back with a beer or two.

Just pre-boil, with no boil hops I only boiled for 30 minutes. I circulated through CF chiller for about 10 minutes just before getting to a boil, didn't want to start circulating with 10 to go, and lose the boil (110V system).
