Pulling out fence posts.

The diagonal boards

Hey I'm not picking up what your putting down the braces you mean them bits of board on the outside of the gate bits?
No the diagonal braces on gates.

No the diagonal braces on gates.
Ok cool yeah I just did them that way because it looked better.
I drew one with them going the other way and Mrs didn't like it and we both though it looked better the other way.
Their just for show and to brace a little in a way.
Hopefully tung and grouving the boards will provide a bit of rigidity...
Thinking I'll use some hardwood railing timber instead of pailings for the bracing timbers too so it's more chunky.

My neighbour up the road has a beautiful hardwood front fence and well I'm trying to keep up with the Joneses :p

If there name actually joneses?

Yes. The angled braces should form an A not a V. Your image shows a V.

of course, with steel gates the wood is there just for decoration, and so it doesn't really matter.

Gate proposition is comming along ever so slowly!

Now i know why we pay money for dressed timber oh man !

And why the guy that makes fences gets $3k for one lol
Amen!
Yup they earn their $ that's for sure.

My justification for cracking on with it myself.

A. you can't get anyone ATM the housing market is going gangbusters and so hard to get someone its hard to get trades in general on the sunny coast.

B. I simply can't afford it.

C. I rekon I can beat em at their own game doing it myself.

And you get to learn a new skill, for free!

Hmmm. Would you call them, er, Fencing Lessons?
Yeah I spent all last weekend just dressing that timber to make a gate.
I could of had it done in a day but it wouldn't look right to me.

No way on earth a fencer would dress the timber like I have.

That's putting a 45° on each edge cutting the faces square through the table saw (so they will butt up neatly) and sanding off the rough edges.
Lucky I love breathing in sawdust drys the pallet for a good old HB moistening later on :D!

Nevermind, link won't work.

Was a cool video of a guy pulling out post with walk behind. Took 5 second

Like the color of that.
Cheers mate yup took all day one day just to prep them boards I gave them all a lite sand with some 40grit to try and rip off the rough edge.
I love the natural look of hardwood too
