    Water Profile - Edmonton AB

Looking to see if anyone has some recent profiles for Edmonton AB, perhaps @Hawkbox ? Trying to sort out my mash pH. Last few brews I have noticed it was coming in lower than expected (after adjusting salts based on Palmer's workbook). Wondering if perhaps the water is changing much causing...

Glycol chiller gone the way of ol' yeller

Come home yesterday to start a week off work to find chiller not working. Developed a leak that slowly leaked out fluid from the condenser. Managed to find a good deal on 10000 BTU AC unit for 80 bucks first thing this morning. Supper time and now my kegs are back on the cool side! Tight fit...

    Pictures not availble in posts

I commonly see IMG[] in posts, instead of pictures. Based on responses, I believe others can see it, but I can't. The link it holds is below. Any idea why? Perhaps only folk in the UK can? https://www.imageupload.co.uk/images/2018/08/28/IMG_1688.jpg

    Cold crash with CO2 Reserve

I got caught up reading a bunch of posts a few weeks ago regarding cold crashing and worries about oxidation, suck back of fluid, etc. Many opinions for sure. Got me to thinking about it and figured I'd try a simple test. Normally I use a double air lock and just let it go but this time I...

    Brewery Logo

Hey everyone I am about as creative as a turnip. I am thinking about calling my brewery "wreckhouse". Its an area close to my hometown that what infamous for extremely high winds, blowing over truckers etc. But, also got a nice ring to it in the brewing light, at least I think so. It also...

    Trub vs no trub

Interesting observation with a little experiment. Same batch same yeast split 3 ways. Only difference is runoff from the kettle. Center is clear with no trub, right side has lots of trub, left side is somewhere in the middle. Picture was taken 10 hours after pitching. S-04 pitched on 1.063 OG...

    Seperatory Funnel DIY Attempt?

Hey everyone, trying to build a seperatory funnel for harvesting yeast. I have some yeast I have been keeping and some that is in slurry that I'd like to wash and put away for a while. I have washed in the normal manner, but I find I throw away a lot of viable yeast causing more starter...

    DIY Fermentation Chiller

Hello strangers! Seems I drifted away for a while. Just in the testing of a long awaited idea at a cheap DIY fermentation chiller. Water cooler, recirculating through a coil in the keggle. This is going to be my first attempt at also fermenting in my kettle, I have read mixed reviews but...

    Same batch, 2 different fermentations

Hey everyone, In the picture, take note of the 2 back carboys. One is clearly differentthan the other in terms of fermentation process. Both were same boil, same US-05 pitched from same starter (divided). Temperature difference over each side was less than a degree ( cold air source is on...

    Wort shrinkage

Over the last few brews I am changed things around alot and caused my attention to focus on smaller detail. I drained to kettle until reaching my pre-boil volume, adjusted boil time to ensure gravity/evaporation. 10 min left I circulated through counterflow chiller, back to kettle. At...

    Conversion efficiency, using strike volume

Hello, Trying to wrap my head around this. My MLT has 0 deadspace due to bottom drain, however, I do use a dome shaped false bottom, which yields about 2 quarts of wort, seperated from grain during mash. Due to this, I infuse the 2 quarts after the initial strike volume in my mash calculator...

    Transplanted my hops

So I got them growing from rhiozome in the spring and was doing good, but chose a poor location and had to move them. Only 1 plant in the pic. Looking for opinions on weather is it malnourished, thirsty, drowned or dreaded "I killed it by moving". It has been moved almost 3 weeks now.

    Lighting for brew pictures

Anyone got opinions of beat lighting scenarios for getting the color / clarity similar to what we see by eye? I am always having trouble getting the picture to represent what I see... I use android, using a DSLR would help but the additional inconvenience would just be a pain.

Water Reports - Am I reading it wrong?

Hello Attached is water report from my water supply company I found online. I am thinking there is a conversion somewhere to go from mg/L CaCO3 to calcium ions. I have read somewhere that 50 mg/L CaCO3 is approx. 20 ppm Ca2+ Does someone have a good link to send me to for that? I am no...

    Trub or cold break?

Hello, In the picture attached, am I looking at just trub or is that cold break coagulation? Considering that's the bottom of a 15 gal keggle, and I only used 2.1 oz of hops, seems too much trub to me. Real reason I am asking is because i can't seem to get a nice cone after Whirlpool, so...
