    Flip top bottles

In a batch of Belgian Golden Ale I made recently, I bottled again with 75cl flip top bottles. This time I made sure that the gasket and top were both sanitized and most importantly, dry. Out of the entire batch only one didn't prime well. And this bottle I left in the fridge for at least 2...

    Kegging beer

Yes the plan would be to go commercial at some point in the future when I've completely trashed out the whole idea. And yes there are a lot of papers to sign and premises to be inspected by our delightful authorities but I'm thinking of going small scale first as I have little money but some...

    Kegging beer

When a brewery kegs its brew, does the beer go into the keg 'flat'/ unprimed so to speak? And the CO2 at the bar its destined for, primes the finished product? :?:

    Fruit Beer

I brewed a fruit beer recently. Using a Maris Otter pale malt and a cara-malt only. The yeast I used was a Young's Cider yeast,( all I had at the time and I also wanted to see how it would pan out with a beer recipe) And at bottling time I added a strawberry extract to the mix.( 4oz/5gal). I...

    Gyle/Speise

If I freeze my gyle primer until I need it to bottle my brew , is it still necessary to boil it first and then cool it before adding it to the bottling bucket or can I just defrost and go?

    Rodents/Rats/mice

Ive noticed an uninvited guest in my shed/brew house yesterday. Only for a split second and fear its a young rat as opposed to a wee mouse! Any clever ideas out there as to how to get rid? I did by mistake order a 25kG bag of Marris Otter at the start of the year for my brew projects and always...

    Beer bottles

Thanks for all the comment lads! I bought a dozen traditional ale bottles from my normal supplier. But yes the common sense approach is to hold on to your favourite empties and use these. I love the Belguim 33cl stubbies but the flip side is with such small volume there's bottles everywhere...

    Carbonation calculator

When I prime my bottled beer by speise/gyle I set aside approx 1.5Litres to prime approx 18 litres. This ratio works perfect for me. But if I want to find out what this is in terms of Volumes of CO2 how do I do that?
