Help with what salts to add when please..

Thank you everyone for your replies, it's much appreciated! Here's the recipe: Btw I like my IPA's bitter so that's why it looks a touch on the fierce side hooping wise! https://www.brewersfriend.com/homebrew/recipe/edit/205561

Help with what salts to add when please..

Ok cheers Craig. When's the best time to check mash PH? I'm guessing it's best done near the begining so additions can be made while there's still time for the mash to convert? How long does a mash need to sit before getting the PH of it? Thanks!

Help with what salts to add when please..

Hi there, I'm not a very active member as I've been unable to brew for a few years now, but I'm dusting off the gear and getting right back into it! I'm brewing my favourite, an american style IPA but as I'm fairly new to all grain I'm a bit confused as to what I add when regarding salts and...

Would this recipe sink or swim?

Yes sorry I converted metric to imperial and realised that I'd cocked it up and made the amounts too great- Sorry about that.

Would this recipe sink or swim?

Hi there Ozarks- my pot is actually 15 gallons. What I meant was I end up with 10 gallons in the fermenter. I'm trying to make a strong English bitter with caramel notes and a hint of smoke. Definitely more malt focused but balanced with softer English hops. I'm not really too bothered by the...

Would this recipe sink or swim?

Hi there, I'm fairly new to brewing all grain, mostly doing pale ales from known recipes. I have a 10 gallon capacity so would like your opinions on this recipe before I commit to brewing it. I'm aiming for a strong English bitter with caramel notes and a hint of smoke. Like I say this is new...

Newbie problem - lost a lot at the boil

Hi there, I find that I lose about 20% of my water through evaporation and then if you're using whole leaf hops allow for more because they absorb a lot of the wort. To end up with 19 litres I used to have a starting wort volume of about 25 litres. 17 does seem low unless you are using a lot of...

    COLD CRASHING ADVICE..

Hi there, I've currently got 10 gallons of AIPA in the conical in my fermentation chamber. I've dry hopped it with: 2.2 ounces Cascade - 7 days ago 1.3 ounces Chinook - 7 days ago 2.2 ounces Galaxy - 4 days ago I want to cold crash it before bottling so what do you guys do? I was...

IPA lacking aroma- GALAXY to the rescue?!

Hi there, I've currently got a 38 litre batch of Punk IPA clone in the conical and earlier dumped out the yeast and dry hopped her with 60 g Cascade 32 g Chinook. I had thought that this would be sufficient to boost the aroma but when I drank the hydrometer sample before dry hopping there...

Original gravity way off what was stated.

Cheers Ozarks for the response! I think you're right, I reckon the wort wasn't stirred sufficiently as the original gravities were too similar considering the difference in amounts of DME between the two brews.

Original gravity way off what was stated.

Hi there, I recently brewed a big IPA and used 4.37kg of dme and 237g of crystal malt (60), which should have given a s.g of 1.091 in 17 litres. There was probably 19 litres in the kettle but the hops absorbed 2 litres or so. Even so it says on the recipe builder that I should have hit 1.082 if...
