RECIPE Breakdown:
Grain Bill: (Fidens):
Started with Fidens Jasper grain bill from Brewers Friend clone recipe and Split the Flaked Oats between Flaked Oats and Chit Malt. Upped these "protein" additions to 20% of grain bill.
Hop Additions (Janish):
Started with Scott Janish’s New England IPA from BYO.com and changed bittering hops (see Beer Maverik link below) addition in the MT and Boil from Columbus to Bravo (15.0 AA) and manipulated amounts to keep IBUs < 40. Also removed the Rapidase Revelation addition (see Brülosophy exBEERiment) and also removed the VIN 7 wine yeast to ensure no allergy problems with Sharon.
Also, modified 1st Hop Stand down from 200 F to 185 F based on Scott Janish article on Hop Survivability (See Oxygen-Containing Monoterpene Alcohols and Key Points section). Combining 1st & 2nd Hop Stands into a single Hop Stand at 185 F for 20 minutes.
Yeast (Janish):
Janish Yeast recipe calls for SafAle S-04 or Wyeast 1318 (London Ale III) or RVA 132 (Manchester Ale) yeast . However, WY1318 is similar to Verdant IPA (see Beer Mavericks links below). Verdant IPA dry yeast was chosen.
Utilized Nate from THB for hop to wort ratio for 8 day dry hop (suggestion of 7-15grams/liter); Did 2.68 oz Citra & Nectaron at 8th day.
