Who do you cheer for?

The Grey Cup takes place tonight, the 112th to be exact. I don't really follow the CFL at all, but this is always a good game to watch. Tonight, in Winnepeg (which we affectionately refer to as Winterpeg) features the Eastern Champion Montreal Alouettes vs the Western Champion Saskatchewan Rough Riders. Cheering for Saskatchewan tonight

Congratulations to the Saskatchewan Rough Riders the 112th Grey Cup Champions.
I like how the trophy is presented to the players, not the owners...

It's the most wonderful time of the year, for Hockey. The World Junior tournament started on Friday. The best under 20 hockey players in the world from 10 nations are playing in Minneapolis and St. Paul Minnesota. Both the USA and Canada had their hands full yesterday with Latvia and Switzerland, but managed wins. In the last 6 years Canada and the US have each won 3 Gold Medals.

Well....

Sweden took care of Latvia handily

Czechia took care of Switzerland handily as well

Finland vs USA needed overtime, where anything can happen, and it happened, Finland wins in overtime. Not a stunning upset, but still an upset. USA had won the last two gold medals in this tournament. Best they can do now is a bronze medal.

So far no score in the Canada Slovakia game after 6 minutes of play.

So exciting!

Holy Jamoly!
Five minutes in and it is 2-0 Canada, long way to go, calm yourself Craigerrr

7-1 final for Canada
Semi Finals go Sunday
Finland vs Sweden
Czechia vs Canada
Sad the US didn't advance, US vs Canada gold medal game could have been epic

Here we go!
Semi Finals!

Well, Canada lost to the Czech's.
They played Finland today and did win the Bronze medal.
It is currently 3-0 Sweden leading the Czech's. Under 3 minutes to go, and the Czech's have their goalie pulled. I believe that Sweden will win gold. AsI type though the Czech's have made it 3-1, but this isn't football...

Well damn if they didn't get another one, but it wasn't enough. Congrats to Sweden for achieving global teenage hockey supremacy.
Crazy too that for such a storied Hockey nation, this was only their 3rd gold medal in the 50 years of this event.

Yeah we just got straight beat by Czechia, they out played us. And Sweden out played them. Nice to see some unexpected results. Maybe our guys will smarten up.

I feel for them, they are teenagers with the weight of a Nation on their shoulders.
Gone are the days when Canada is the favorite every year, and they roll over the lower seeded teams 13-1 in the round robin.

Funny, talking to my stepson last night, he played AAA hockey, and was a real good player.
Concussions ended his dream.
He said "I don't feel bad for them", I thought that was a pretty rough take, jealous I guess...

I dunno. I was once part of a team that won a world championship. We’d won quite often, but when we didn’t, we did not get sad, but mad, driving us to identify things to improve and working harder at it, to win. It was a bit magical.

So maybe the son is remembering something similar?

The only pressure on him was his own and what his father put on him. There was some pressure from his Dad, but nothing over the top.
These kids are on TV and being scrutinized by a nation, and the broadcast crew. Some of them get this one and only chance. They do it for themselves, but there is pressure. When Canada loses at hockey on the world stage, the nation looks inward as to why, and how this could happen. The price of being the best, or at least one of the best at something globally.

Ok, I can see that. Our ‘sport’ is not widely known and very low profile outside of the participants, so far less pressure.

Lol Don I know that the accomplishment is great and took a lot of hard work, but it tickles me that you are calling robots a sport
