Would you stay with your setup and run two carbon block filters or add a 2 or 5 micron first then the carbon block?

I originally started out with that idea but that was before I sent in for my water report, turns out my water is good for any pilsner right out of the faucet except for the choline taste, the real thing I worry about is I use a Colman drinking water hose from my outside faucet and its 50 feet long to my rig, now the filters are not there to change the water but to catch anything through the pipes or hose,

as far as filtering the water its self in my case one filter is fine, Im not sure about your situation

downfalls to ro water, its very slow to fill anything strait from the faucet, most advanced people store the water in a large container the day before but when doing that you run the risk of contamination, that water has nothing to shield it from bacteria so a very close eye on cleanliness has to be taken
also the quality of the ro water relies heavily on the membrane you run it through, the better ones are more expensive and will need to be replaced every so often along with the 3 sediment filters
I cant tell you anything else I think Nosybear researched it more than me

by the way you don't have to buy all those parts I have on mine, I just had them lying around, a single filter with a campden tablet should work fine

If it's run through a RO filter, it's essentially sterile water. I wouldn't worry about contamination. Most of the RO rigs I've seen have a tank, generally around five gallons. That's kept me from exploring the option further - I need ten gallons of purified water on brew day.

ive got one filter set up on my kitchen tap here in Aus lots of chlorine in water. The reason why we originally got it was if you got the chilled water bottle out of the fridge the first draught was like drinking pool water. The bloke who supplies our filter said it'd take care of the chlorine and any crap but as for minerals they stay. I can vouch for no chlorine it's all gone No more drinking pool water yay. I might just stick with my one filter system mmm I do wish I didn't have to decant it into a pot and carry it out to my brew rig but:rolleyes:. Cheers for the most helpful info but.

I'm going to start off with one filter and a campden tablet and see how that goes. If I do need a second filter than I can always add that.

yes that will work and I can show you how to fit then together after the fact, the only reason I take mine apart today is to empty them out after each brew, its easier apart

I'll probably order the parts Monday from Amazon, at least the housing and filter. I may be able to get the other parts from Lowes.
I'll do as you do and take apart after each use. I usually brew every other week or so. No need to keep water sitting in there for a couple weeks.
Thanks again for putting the list together.

JW: is it ok to use brass fittings (ball valve, barbs) vs stainless?

for water its fine, for wort its a temperature issue that can lead to reactions causing off flavors

Is anyone using a carbon block filter for brewing water in stead of a RO system?
I've been using filtered water from one of those stand alone machines but I noticed the last time I got water there it wasn't the best tasting.

Don't want to spend the bucks for a RO system unless I can find a decent one for under $100.
I did find this one, https://www.amazon.com/Portable-Rev...95334&sr=8-16&keywords=ro+water+filter+system, but not sure of the quality.

I also saw this one, https://www.amazon.com/Reverse-Osmo...95334&sr=8-13&keywords=ro+water+filter+system.

Then I thought about just getting a filter housing and a.5 micron carbon block filter to use. Only problem with that is I have no idea how I would treat the water.
What do you guys suggest?
Those RO systems only produce 3 gallons per hour. Spend the night before filling your HLT

It's only for water- no wort will be going through this system.
I brew 3.5 gallon batches and use 6 gallons and under so 1 gal/per hour would take 6 hrs. kind of a pain but it's a better option to what I currently have.
