watching the new Star Wars Andor saga
Star Trek has always depicted a post-scarcity society where capitalism has faded away. While I think this should be aspirational I don't think it's accomplished because I think if we ever did actually have the means to eliminate scarcity that capitalistic forces would intervene to artificially maintain scarcity to preserve their wealth and status.I never figured out what "Woke" actually was LOL. The original definitely had some socialist concepts, but since we no longer abide by economic models piling debt upon debt ( and that is everybody, not just us), who knows if the man might actually be right or not someday. I still think Roger Waters will have it right in that we amuse ourselves to death
They did have the first interracial kiss on TV too.
Sad you poor fools settled for a poor Babylon 5 knock off in DS9.... yes I went there.
Yeah I am watching DS9 (finished TNG) on prime via paramount + . I keep seeing ads for strange new worlds and it looks good.I found out Amazon has the Star Trek Strange New Worlds available on Prime for a limited time. I watch the first 3 last week. Pretty cool take. I like the characters, and I think they found some good writers too adapting to today's social commentary.
I got through the 4th episode last night. They have definitely done a great job developing the characters much better than they could have even dreamed about in the 60s, most specifically the women roles . It is Captain Pike area, so pre Kirk. The Uhura character is a cadet, and they developed her into much more than a chick that talks on the radio. The Nurse Chapel character in the 60s ran around in a short skirt. They gave her some brains in this series. La'an definitely has a butchy look which they would probably have not thought to do with a character in the 60s, and the 4th episode really developed her.Yeah I am watching DS9 (finished TNG) on prime via paramount + . We’re not the only ones on this island Jack and we all know it! ;-)I started watching Lost. It popped up on Netflix recently. I never watched it when it was on TV for some reason but it's a decent summer series to watch when winding down at night.
