3.5 hour GMT offset o_O? I thought Canadians were supposed the be the sensible ones?

Actually India is the same way. Really makes the mental math hard when scheduling a meeting.

I am confused about the time.
I believe that we have met in the past at 4PM MST, which was 6PM EST. 6:30PM MST would be 8:30 EST. this fine with me, but I thought that if anything we were going to start earlier so that Zambezi could join in a bit earlier, and the Aussies could join in when they awake from their slumbers. I looked back, and don't see any comments about starting 2.5 hours later.

Just use the UTC / GMT and if you have a problem converting you can use one of the many aids on the web. Here's a link that I added zulu to and you just need to add your time zone. Just start typing in the "add time zone, city or town" box and a list will show up for you to choose a locale from.

You'll note that you need the date. It'll let folks on the other side of the date line get the correct day.

This afternoon/morning, as appropriate, 2300 GMT. I learned from my air traffic controller days when working with the entire world, it's best to work in GMT.
 
GMT is for suckers. UTC is where it's at. ;)

I'm an Air Traffic Engineer (retired) and worked at several places all over the UK - 14 years in Heathrow
