BIAB fermentation

I have a 14 gallon chapman pot and used it a few times for fermentation...It developed a propensity toward souring and I found that there were imperfections in the finish that allowed some corrosion and a hiding place for lactobacillus. I'm sure it'll work but I'd be very careful with it. I do like the idea of a one-stop-shopping solution.
Just starting out, it's hard to get cheaper and easier than stove-top pots and plastic buckets (cheap enough to replace them ever few brews) or glass carboys (ignoring the hassle of lifting heavy glass jugs).

Not me.....I use either....plastic bucket, Fermonster plastic carboy or my SSbrewtech Brew bucket. I agree that it couldn't get much cheaper than the plastic bucket. Seems like fermenting in kettle would require some reno for airlock.

Well I have a Chapman 7 gallon I've been fermenting in for a couple years never had that problem
Yours has welds inside the pot? That's weird
Anyway he refuses to use plastic so this is what I'm thinking
He has never brewed before but he loves my beer
Of course I told him there is a learning curve
But I can't recommend him to go all in until he knows he wants to do it
He said he doesn't mind spending a bit so I can tell him to order what I want and if he doesn't use it I can get it at second hand price

No the Chapman comes with an airlock
I actually put a tri clamp on mine to pressure transfer
The only thing I thought about fermentation in the kettle is aeration

Interesting. Never tried it, but I started BIAB brewing with a pot/kettle that I already owned. Very low cost. :D

well he has a kettle but the Chapman has a sealing lock down lid drilled for a air lock
I am worried about aeration and all the break material in the kettle

Got it. I was stuck on the “low cost” entry point. Just thinking that buying a “brew pail” plastic bucket and mashing in an already-owned kettle would be pretty cheap…like me. :D

I agree
I sometimes use mine as well
He is against plastic and I'm not going to try to change his mind
He can always fry a turkey in it if he doesn't want to brew
