2025 Q3 Community brew

This one is up next for me, in a few weeks! Aside from the Carapils, I have everything in stock. If I had a LHBS, I would go get the Carapils and stay true to the recipe. Alas, I don't have anywhere close to pick some up so leaving that out will be my only change. I'll just bump up the 2-Row a smidge, or not. Have to say, I'm looking forward to the consequences of that aggressive Dry Hop! :)

This looks good, but I agree there needs to be a category name change for this.
I just rebuilt my Golden Ale at the shop and it's next up to brew. I'm still on the fence as to go with and American, citrusy hops on the finish, mainly because of the name.
Currently it a classic example of the style.
I'm hoping to get this brewed at home.
Thanks @Sunfire96
Brian

Maybe some people would consider it a session IPA? Or a light pale ale? I'm not really sure. It has more body and maltiness than a low cal IPA, but the hops are in your face and it's plenty bitter

Fingers crossed, this one will be brewed on Suday. Very much looking forward to a late summer, session Pale.

Anyone yet? I hope y'all aren't brewing boring, vastly overrated Oktoberfests. :D

I’m guilty. Marzen is laggering and brewing Festbier tonight.

After one more lager to use up malt and yeast I’m brewing it.

Let’s go! Numbers right on the money and everything put away in a very tidy 4:15. Pitched BRY-97 at 65F.

I am going to brew this one next
@Sunfire96 do you have this recipe in brewfather so I can copy it to my account?

This is up next for me.
Had to make a few changes for available ingredients.

Malts
Subbed Rahr Pale for the basemalt, and split the Pale rye into the Vienna and Carapils.

Hops
Idon't have any CTZ, so I am using Magnum for the bittering addition.
I am running short on Citra, so I am making up the rest with Simcoe, splitting the boil and dry additions up.

Yeast
I don't have the Lutra, will use Voss.

With changing out the basemalt this recipe actually falls right into American Pale Ale!

Here's my recipe for this quarter's community brew. A session strength, hop forward golden ale. These are my favorite types of beers to drink: medium bitterness, hoppy but not juicy, and lower alcohol but not thin.

Feel free to post questions about it here. I'm sure people will be making their own substitutions, but there are 2 things about this recipe that make it what it is: the use of rye malt and Vienna, and the yeast choice. If you can get the malts it really makes a difference. And the yeast should be either BRY 97 or Mangrove Jack M44. Both are West Coast yeast strains, but are different than Chico. Although this beer does really well with kveik strains too.

Use your favorite bittering hop at 60 minutes, it shouldn't matter. You can swap the others out, but this recipe is meant to showcase hops. So I prefer pacific northwest and New world hops that really stand out: Citra, Simcoe, Mosaic, Galaxy, Nectaron, Talus, McKenzie, etc.

The 5 minute hop additions could be used in a 20 minute whirlpool at flameout instead, if you're into that sort of thing. Contributes very similar IBUs to the wort and maintains a bit more hop flavor/aroma (at least in theory).

I hope y'all like it!

I just got back home from a couple of months in the PNW. I need to blow out something that'll be grain to glass in a hurry and won't be too bad to brew and ferment in the lingering Texas heat. This one is pretty perfect!
I love the hop combo but I'll switch around a little because I really like what CTZ and Simcoe both do at 20 minutes - pine and pot - with the late additions of Citra and Simcoe throwing the tropicals on top of that.
I'd never characterize this as a British beer, though...it's hoppy blonde all the way or maybe Session Pale Ale.

Glad you like it, that hop combo sounds tasty!

Yea it kind of rides that line between session IPA and pale ale, but the low color and low abv and zero caramel malt characters prevent it from being a true APA. Session IPA is close, but it's best between 30-40 IBUs, so not bitter enough on paper for an IPA.

Honestly golden ale is the closest fitting style. And if you read the description on BJCP they highlight the emphasis on low malt character and abv but very hop forward and typically features American hops despite the style name. Wish they would drop the British part of the name :D it just seems to confuse people

With VOSS ripping through yesterday's brew in record time I should have it cold crashed and kegged by next Saturday.
Hoping to get On Tap Ale brewed up next Sunday
