    First brew story....

Well after all the thermometer panic and such, the beer turned out very well. I am extremely pleased with the result of my first brew. Trouble is, it's all gone! That's the problem with small batches. Well I have another that's just about ripe and will be brewing a 5 gallon batch in days. I did...

Trouble with mash, brew in progress

Something very strange happened actually. BF called for 7.25 lbs of grain and 4.95 gallos of water but I was trying to brew this in a 5 gallon kettle so I heated 3 gallons of strike water and had 2 gallons of sparge water at the ready. Coughing in caused my mash temp to drop from 159 down to...

Trouble with mash, brew in progress

This is a 2.75 gal BIAB batch, I'm trying to brew in a 5 gal kettle. Just brought 3 gallons of strike water up to 160 and added my grain, it is really thick but I can't fit anymore water in that kettle with this much grain. I stirred as best I could but my temp dropped way down to around 140 or...

Who do you brew with ?

I agree that one more set of hands would be just about all that is needed. I brewed this last weekend with my son, who has more home brew experience than me and that was great. I have pretty limited space in which to brew so I wouldn't want any more than that really.

    First brew story....

My son and I brewed up a Blue Moon clone yesterday for my wife who until recently didn't really like beer. All went well and then today I transfered my Citra IPA into a secondary over 2 oz of Citra whole hops. In a week or so, I'll be bottling. It has cleared up quite a bit and since I now have...

Is anyone not using the Beer Recipe Calculator on this site?

Re: Is anyone not using the Beer Recipe Calculator on this s I just used it in designing my first ever brew. Though I had no experience brewing beer, I've had plenty of experience consuming beer and I know what I like so I felt fairly comfortable designing my own recipe. That said, it sure was...

    First brew story....

Mike, I had a checklist sitting on the table next to the brew kettle, think I looked at it, nah. I need an app like the map app on my phone that talks to me and reminds me of the next step. They say something is the first to go but I can't remember what!!!!

    First brew story....

So this evening was my first ever solo all grain brew, it didn't go as planned... The recipe was a simple IPA http://www.brewersfriend.com/homebrew/r ... -citra-ipa. I posted it earlier for review. I crushed my grains in my new mill and started my strike water. This is brew in a bag. Got it up...

Question about "Mash Guideline" in BF

In my case, I'm doing a full volume BIAB so I guess I'll use the total water used in the brew. Or just leave it out as the water requirements are listed elsewhere under the tools menu.

    My Citra IPA

I had some earlier hops in there but I was trying to keep the IBU's in the mid to upper 60's. I didn't add more, I just moved them a little close to the end of the boil. It'll be a little while before I brew this so ya never know what might change in the mean time. Thanks for your ideas.

    My Citra IPA

This was originally going to be a SMaSH brew but I got distracted and this is what ended up with. It's simple enough though. What do you think? TIA http://www.brewersfriend.com/homebrew/r ... -citra-ipa

Question about "Mash Guideline" in BF

I had BIAB selected as my brew method, is that what you mean? I'm working on another recipe now and input the full volume of water there and it appears to be working now. Probably just a rookie misunderstanding. Is there somewhere, an online guide to using the editor?

Question about "Mash Guideline" in BF

In the recipe editor in the block titled Mash Guidelines, there is an amount input field. What is this for? I had assumed I would put in my full mash volume (doing BIAB), but after I did that, the software changed my value so I am now confused. Thanks
