    Decline in Hombrewing.

Understand all you say, Frank. At 72, I don't drink nearly as much as i used to and my smaller batches still last a good while. Love that you challenged yourself to get out of your comfort zone and brew beers that take more intention and more details. I love to brew lagers just because they...

    Decline in Hombrewing.

A club I started about 12 years in Maryland (BADASS - Brewers and Drinkers Around Silver Spring) saw a big jump in membership from the about 2015 to the beginning of the pandemic. Of course over 2 years with no meetings (ok, some not satisfying Zoom chats) really wreaked havoc with membership...

    Custom Brew log events

Looked to see if this was requested before and did not find. How about a custom/editable brewlog event type? I know there is an 'other' choice, but that doesn't get it for me. E.g., what about dry hop begun and DH complete events? Or fermentation temp change event (I often will raise the temp...

    Label Generator/Brew Session Results

I have the same question and a little disappointed that there is no answer. Having the recipe label is nice, but rarely will it match reality.

    Lemongrass: How to add

Making a lemongrass Saison and i'm wondering if anyone has used lemongrass as an herb for flavoring. I'm thinking i'll make a tea out of some of the dried plants and add to conditioning vessel. But trying to upscale to a 5 gallon batch has me puzzled. Ideas? thanks.

    Thermometer

I bought and use this instant read for both smoking meats and brewing beer. works very well and is precise to 1/10 of a degree. Accuracy is within 1* F and price is quite good. Downside is that you can't leave in the meat or wort while cooking. for that I use a Maverick ET732.

How Do You Measure Grain Temperature?

i just place an instant read thermo into the bag of grain and get temp that way. i know it is not an exact measure of the grain, but of the air in the spaces between the grains. But like your water measurement, it should be darn close. But i sincerely doubt that the grain temp is the culprit...

    Malt grain additions to vorlauf

I follow Gordon Strong's assertion to add dark grains in the vorlauf (for certain styles) because they don't do much in the mash anyway, it eliminates tannin extraction, and he likens it to coffee brewing. I find that it works well for my brews. However, when formulating my recipes on BF, there...

    Vorlauf malt additions

Not sure if this should go on the recipes forum, but anyway... I follow Gordon Strong's assertion to add dark grains in the vorlauf because they don't do much in the mash anyway. I find that it works well for my brews. However, when formulating my recipes on BF, there is no place to enter...

    Lagering a Biere de Garde

Wondering how long to lager (say at ~35*F) a Biere de Garde. Had 4 weeks in the primary using a lager yest (Bavarian) at a rather warm 60*F. Produced the esters/fruity aromas i wanted and now to age a bit. Does 4 weeks sound reasonable? Thanks, Allen
