Thanks everyone, that clears it up a lot. I'm doing 13lbs pale malt and 6oz C-15, mashing in at 150-152 and using S-05.I had a buddies beer a long time ago and it was very dry and wanted to duplicate it. I think he must have sub'd some malt for sugar. Maybe I'll try that in the future.
Cheers!
Hey folks, I'd like to dry out an IPA recipe I'm working on and understand sugar either at the end of the boil or introduced after initial fermentation has occured should work. I can't figure how much to add to drop a few points as when I enter it in to the recipe build it only raises the OG and...
After scouring the page I finally found the calc button, hit it and it did adjust the water amount so did a test brew day but it did not resolve the issue. :( This is a standard recipe I've just created with the only difference being a 70min boil time. Could that be the issue?
Never seen this before. Anyone know what it means or how it happened? Not sure what water to start with now and will try and compare past like recipes to determine. ????
Big hint on the problem (possibly)! I just realized that issue is with inventory items in which you don't have stock in. I purchased a pound of Acidulated malt, updated my inventory and went to the brew link. This time it grabbed Acidulated malt (now in stock) vs trying to switch it to Aromatic...
Thanks WesBrew. Yeah I've experienced that in the past too, blamed the software and then realised it was dipstick holding the mouse lol. I can figure some of these things out but when the system goes squirrly for no reason when it was working fine, it make me pull my hair out in frustration...
Here's another screwy thing as of late. The inventory being deducted on brew day is not the same ingredients as the recipe. Not sure if this screen shot will show it but it is removing aromatic malt in place of acidulated, pale malt in place of rye and ESB malt in place of wheat.
I don't want to be on the beta program, I'm not a computer person; I just want to get the value I pay for out of my annual subscription. This is not the cheapest site to belong to and these problems are very frustrating. I don't understand these programs and how something that was working fine...
Thanks Trialben. Just made a test recipe using simlar weights of grain and hops and it looked ok on both tools and printed version. Just something hinky in the software I guess with that one recipe.
I noticed 2 brews ago the water requirement for my brew seemed higher than normal. Turned out it was wrong and I missed my gravities and had extra wort remaining in the the keggle after filling the fermenter. Last brew was same so I manually adjusted my water by eye and it worked out perfectly...
Oh for fecks sakes what an idiot. First Yooper, you should know and I will admit that I actually have had a head injury and I'm not using it as a crutch but every year I age I think I may end up doing so. Turns out, if you're gonna change the name of a beer you've brewed a ton of, either...
So I copied and changed a regular recipe (base malt and hop type) and was planning on brewing tomorrow when I noticed my water requirements were quite high at 8.85gal. Went back in my notes and past recipe (on paper) was 8.45! Decided to look up past brews and is now showing as the 8.85. What...
Thanks Trialben, I thought it was around somewhere and just glaze over it every time lol. I've got my 60min boil time down and don't typically bother with 90 min boils as I don't use Pilsen but wanted to try a Sierra Nevada recipe from their site. Ended up tweeking to a regular 60min boil...
