Thanks for that, I hope to have something going in the near future, but it might have to wait until our kitchen remodel is complete.

What are you drinking right now?

After a day spent fly fishing (without catching) on the McKenzie River, this local brew is a good drink. It has been too long since I brewed any beer. There is still a bag of grains that I bought to brew last summer, but it never happened. At the end of September 2025, my wife and I both took a...

I like it! Just yesterday, I stripped old screen from one of our windows, using that screen to line the bottom of a pot for drainage. Now I have a window to rescreen.

What are you doing with homebrew today?

Tying flies might make me go blind, but it does interest me. My late brother was a fly tier. Yes, my batches are still small - 2.5 gallons fills my kegs.

    Bread Thread!

Sourdough is, like brewing, a journey. The culture that I had both nourished and neglected since 2015 gave up in May. In July, I began the process of nurturing a new starter to life, using locally sourced wheat flour (Bob’s Red Mill), and McKenzie River water that is piped into our home. My...

    Your boil time

For my past several brews, I have boiled for 75 minutes, which allows me to hit my gravity and volume targets. Over the same span, I have extended the mash from 60 to 80 minutes, again to hit pre boil gravity.

While my new Subaru is getting its 6 month maintenance, I walked over to the lhbs to buy a pouch of Cellar Science Voss Kveik. There is another batch of grains waiting at home, and we seem to have reached that time of year where my fermentation closet stays consistently in the 75F+ range. It has...

Once again, we visit the garden. She is sipping a dry cider. For me, Sebastian the procurer of beer has obtained from Ferment Brewing Co. in Hood River, OR the IPA High Five Herman. I love that a local beer monger seeks out beers for me.

Back at the garden, where she has Cranberry Squall Cider from Bandon Rain, and I enjoy another Gemstone Cowboy IPA from Terminal Gravity.
