What are you drinking right now?

A day at the coast is always a good excuse to stop in Yachats. Since Yachats Brewing is closed, The Drift Inn serves as a great backup. I am enjoying a glass of.Moby Red from Depoe Bay, while she sips Chehalem Rose of Pinot Noir.

    I'm Signing Out.

Good on you, Ben. Your passion and wisdom has been a constant here on Brewer’s Friend since before I joined some 5 years ago. Hopefully, you can get everything straightened out, and you can find a new hobby into which you can direct your enormous energies. May the future be bright for you and...

    Switching to kegs

Great advice from @Craigerrr I still bottle after more than 5 years active in this hobby. Just recently, I got kegging gear, and have used it once. Bottling is a process that I will continue to use, even with kegs ready. Find what brings you joy in this hobby. Make sure this is a hobby that you...

What are you drinking right now?

Since Oakshire Public House is so close to my wife’s work, and they have Happy Hour all day on Monday, it’s a no brainer. I pick her up, we land here, with at least 6 food trucks to choose from. Trainsong Saison in the tulip for her, Watershed IPA for me.

Last sip of my Vienna Garage Lager, enjoyed after putting away all of my brewing gear.

What are you doing with homebrew today?

My Partial Eclipse Wheat is in the custody of Cellar Science Cali yeast. Volume is a tad high, as is starting gravity, and that is alright.

    Cooling Wort?

OK, for those of you who go the no chill route, please explain your equipment and process. This interests me, if I can do it with the simple equipment that I already have. I’m not sure if I want to add one of those Jerry(?) cans to my equipment.

What are you doing with homebrew today?

I am back in the saddle today, about halfway thru the mash for Partial Eclipse Wheat (PEW). If on target, the day will give me ~2.5 gallons of 1.048 wort with ~35 IBU’s. Before packaging (not sure yet if I will have a beer fridge, so not sure if this batch will go in bottles or a keg), this will...

    What's your next brew

Looking for subs, Melanoidin is the first malt that comes up. However, if you are trying to hit a certain color, Melanoidin could thwart your plans. I don’t mind if it changes the color, as long as the beer tastes good when it is ready. I am using 4 ounces of Melanoidin in a grain bill weighing...

    Switching to kegs

I am new to kegging, having put only one brew in the keg, so far. When I finally get a fridge to hold my keg(s), then I will be more committed to the kegging process. There is a batch of Amber Ale ready, but since I don’t yet have the fridge, this batch will go in bottles.

What are you doing with homebrew today?

Thanks Craig. For the past few months I have been dealing with the demise of my father. There is still plenty of work to do, but I am home for a brief respite from the madness.

Another local beer, this is pFriem South Pacific IPA, as I relax at my favorite local watering hole.

    What's your next brew

My next brew will be another rendition of Wheat Ale, with some minor tweaks from last time. For the first time, I will be using Cellar Science Cali dry yeast, and since lhbs was out of honey malt, I subbed in a quarter pound of melanoidin malt. This brew will get a half ounce of Mandarina...

What are you doing with homebrew today?

I am drinking this craft beer (Line Dry Rye by Oakshire, A local pale ale made with rye) at The Bier Stein. This is a stop on my way home after getting grains and yeast from lhbs. It has been a minute since my last brew. I am looking at Monday as a good day to brew another batch of wheat ale.

We're number three: best states for retirement

My wife and I made good decisions, especially in buying our first home. We stayed well within our means, settling for a newer condominium in a desirable neighborhood, getting it paid off in 17 years. I am glad we did not fall into the trap of buying bigger and more expensive. We had a good run...

We're number three: best states for retirement

Not much, but I would not trade what we have here for what you have there. We fortunately paid off our first home in SoCal, then lived mortgage free for another 7.5 years. The sale of that home allowed us to buy our Eugene home outright, with plenty left over. Living mortgage free is a huge...

What are you drinking right now?

I am drinking the last partial pour of my Red Wheat for Winter. As such, I can now be counted among those who have said that the keg just kicked. Next up in the keg will be my Amber Ale, brewed yesterday. It will be several weeks before that brew is in the keg.
