Busted inkbird wreaked havoc on my keezer

Kind of. I had a co2 gauge go bad on me, reading low, so when I moved a Pils over to the tap, purged and filled, I got like 3 consecutive pint glasses of nothing but foam. I purged it several times, took it off of the serving gas line and just pulled from it repeatedly over about 7-8 days...

Help use up my 2026 Cascade harvest

I updated the notes from yesterday's brew. No real surprises. I did do my first mash hops. I put an ounce of my processed/dried hops in with the mash and mash out. 2 ounces for 60m 1 ounce for 20m 6 ounces processed hops + 8 ounces fresh hops whirlpool x 30 minutes at 175. All Cascade...

Help use up my 2026 Cascade harvest

I’m a little nervous about dry hopping with either the fresh or dried and frozen hops, but I could be convinced… Lutra it is then. But I still want to stick with all home grown hops. I may do a late boil add and leave them in for the whirlpool as well

Help use up my 2026 Cascade harvest

I just did the 3rd of what looks like 4 harvests this year and the rest that come in will get frozen for next year. I have 10.6 ounces of dried & frozen Cascade and 7.9 ounces of fresh Cascade I need to use pretty quick. My objective is to create a drinkable beer, which will be the canvas for...

What are you doing with homebrew today?

I refer to mine as "Droughtfest", to celebrate the drying of the grass, not as much time and effort put into mowing and having more time to... well... drink beer. I was going to keg my 2nd round of Czech amber earlier, but, only have one 5 gallon keg and I have ~6.5-7 gallons of beer. No way...

Insanity? Percolation or Drip Mash instead of Immersion...

That's what I'm sayin', eh!?

Insanity? Percolation or Drip Mash instead of Immersion...

^^^^ THIS. [I think] What you're describing is much like an All in One system with a basket elevated over the water/wort, recirculating. Just like @Bigbre04 said, maintaining temps during the mash will be problematic. I do this at the end of the mash on my system. I do about 10m mash out...

    Do You Update Recipes?

It depends. I've ended up with better attenuation than expected, so I would sometimes update that value. For mash/brewhouse I will sometimes, depending on how close I am. Regardless, I try to keep process, ingredient & significant data in the notes section. I'm not as thorough as...

Keeping hops out of your plate chiller...

I am also BIAB; Anvil kettle, which has a filter attachment to the spigot valve. I also use hop bags. After the t/f to the fermenter, I divert the leftover sparge water and flush the chiller. If I'm feeling ambitious, I put a light cleaning on the kettle, pbw, sparge water, and wash that...

    Czech style amber

I thought I'd posted this before, but apparently I just ran my trap about it on one or more monthly zooms with some virtual friends? https://www.brewersfriend.com/homebrew/recipe/view/1631258/czech-ish-amber-lager The pils is 'Prostejov' from northern brewer. This came out quite tasty, so I...

    Mash Efficiency

I vote to brew one of the more typical, 'bigger' beers to the completion as indicated by the "iodine test" and assess those pre-boil numbers. This is going to be particular to your system and processes. There's a lot of overlap in what all of us do, but we all use different equipment and we...

    Mangrove Jack's M84

I use MJ Bavarian and Bohemian a lot. I do tend to do starter cultures though as sometimes the yeast can be a bit... vintage ;-) That said, I get ~80% ... ish. I think about 1.055 is about the highest I've started with and it's finished well every time.

    Strata hops! New to me!

Not enough to provide good, usable feedback. I still have some T90 strata left but haven't used it in many a brew session.
